CHARM2: An updated Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements
We present an update of the Catalog of High Angular ResolutionMeasurements (CHARM, Richichi & Percheron \cite{CHARM}, A&A,386, 492), which includes results available until July 2004. CHARM2 is acompilation of direct measurements by high angular resolution methods,as well as indirect estimates of stellar diameters. Its main goal is toprovide a reference list of sources which can be used for calibrationand verification observations with long-baseline optical and near-IRinterferometers. Single and binary stars are included, as are complexobjects from circumstellar shells to extragalactic sources. The presentupdate provides an increase of almost a factor of two over the previousedition. Additionally, it includes several corrections and improvements,as well as a cross-check with the valuable public release observationsof the ESO Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). A total of 8231entries for 3238 unique sources are now present in CHARM2. Thisrepresents an increase of a factor of 3.4 and 2.0, respectively, overthe contents of the previous version of CHARM.The catalog is only available in electronic form at the CDS viaanonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or via http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/431/773

J - K DENIS photometry of a VLTI-selected sample of bright southern stars
We present a photometric survey of bright southern stars carried outusing the DENIS instrument equipped with attenuating filters. Theobservations were carried out not using the survey mode of DENIS, butwith individual target pointings. This project was stimulated by theneed to obtain near-infrared photometry of stars to be used in earlycommissioning observations of the ESO Very Large TelescopeInterferometer, and in particular to establish a network of brightcalibrator sources.We stress that near-infrared photometry is peculiarly lacking for manybright stars. These stars are saturated in 2MASS as well as in regularDENIS observations. The only other observations available for brightinfrared stars are those of the Two Micron Sky Survey dating from overthirty years ago. These were restricted to declinations above≈-30°, and thus cover only about half of the sky accessible fromthe VLTI site.We note that the final 2MASS data release includes photometry of brightstars, obtained by means of point-spread function fitting. However, thismethod only achieves about 30% accuracy, which is not sufficient formost applications.In this work, we present photometry for over 600 stars, each with atleast one and up to eight measurements, in the J and K filters. Hipparcos red stars in the HpV_T2 and V I_C systems
For Hipparcos M, S, and C spectral type stars, we provide calibratedinstantaneous (epoch) Cousins V - I color indices using newly derivedHpV_T2 photometry. Three new sets of ground-based Cousins V I data havebeen obtained for more than 170 carbon and red M giants. These datasetsin combination with the published sources of V I photometry served toobtain the calibration curves linking Hipparcos/Tycho Hp-V_T2 with theCousins V - I index. In total, 321 carbon stars and 4464 M- and S-typestars have new V - I indices. The standard error of the mean V - I isabout 0.1 mag or better down to Hp~9 although it deteriorates rapidly atfainter magnitudes. These V - I indices can be used to verify thepublished Hipparcos V - I color indices. Thus, we have identified ahandful of new cases where, instead of the real target, a random fieldstar has been observed. A considerable fraction of the DMSA/C and DMSA/Vsolutions for red stars appear not to be warranted. CHARM: A Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements
The Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements (CHARM) includesmost of the measurements obtained by the techniques of lunaroccultations and long-baseline interferometry at visual and infraredwavelengths, which have appeared in the literature or have otherwisebeen made public until mid-2001. A total of 2432 measurements of 1625sources are included, along with extensive auxiliary information. Inparticular, visual and infrared photometry is included for almost allthe sources. This has been partly extracted from currently availablecatalogs, and partly obtained specifically for CHARM. The main aim is toprovide a compilation of sources which could be used as calibrators orfor science verification purposes by the new generation of largeground-based facilities such as the ESO Very Large Interferometer andthe Keck Interferometer. Luminosity and Temperature from Near-Infrared Spectra of Late-Type Giant Stars
We present moderate resolution (lambda / Delta lambda ~ 1380 and lambda/ Delta lambda ~ 4830) spectra of 43 K0 to M6 III stars covering 2.19 -2.34 mu m and measure equivalent widths of the strongest absorptionfeatures - Na I, Ca I, and (12) CO(2,0) - present on the spectra. Thehigh resolution Wallace & Hinkle (1996) spectral atlas shows thatour moderate resolution measurements of the atomic features havesignificant contributions from other species, such as Sc, S, Fe, Ti, Si,and V. We also find that our measured equivalent widths are affected byCN absorption present in the continuum bands. In spite of this, theequivalent widths of Na I and Ca I features at moderate resolution stillshow a strong dependence on effective temperature. The CO equivalentwidth at moderate resolution is less affected by other lines andcontinuum placement than the atomic features, because of its relativelygreater strength. We compare our data to similar data taken forlate-type dwarf stars (Ali et al. 1995) and find that a two dimensionalspectral classification can be constructed based on the near-IR spectra.The quantity log[EW(CO)/(EW(Na)+EW(Ca))] is a strong luminosityindicator independent of effective temperature, while the equivalentwidth of (12) CO(2,0) has a well-defined dependence on effectivetemperature for a given luminosity. This two dimensional spectralclassification is ideal for cool stars obscured by dust in, for example,the central part of the Galactic bulge and regions of star formation.

Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue.
We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star,when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.

Observations of lunar occultations at Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur.
The results of 114 photoelectric observations are analysed. They wereobtained at the two stations of O.C.A.: Calern and Nice Observatories.We first give a short description of the two photometers used and thenwe present the interactive reduction method. The astrometric andphotometric parameters are derived from each light-curve. Finally wesummarize the results and discuss about the non point-like occultedstars: we present 38 double star measurements, for 16 objects, and 11determinations of angular diameters, for 4 objects.

Asymptotic giant branch stars near the sun
Available red and near-infrared photometry and apparent motions of M, S,and C asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in the Bright Star Catalogueare tabulated and discussed. It is shown that the red and near infraredindices normally used for late-type stars are interchangeable except forcarbon stars. The M-type giants are variable with visual amplitudegreater than 0.05 mag. The reddening-free parameter m2 from Genevaphotometry is essentially a temperature parameter for M giants, whilethe reddening-free parameter d is a sensitive detector of blue stellarcompanions. The space density of AGB stars near the sun decreases by afactor of 35 in a temperature range 3800 to 3400 K. Two of the S starsnear the sun were found to have nearly equal space motions and may becomembers of the Arcturus group.

Pseudocepheids. III - The low-mass stars
Light and color curves in four-color, H-beta, and (RI) photometricsystems are presented for 20 low-mass pseudocepheids. Members of theWolf 630 group and the cluster M67 are used to establish the positionsof both variable and nonvariable giants with near solar abundance in theluminosity-temperature plane for old disk population stars, whilemembers of Omega Cen and of Kapteyn's Star Group are used for the lowmetal abundance halo giants. The low-mass pseudocepheids discussed aredivided into two main categories, based on the amplitude of lightvariation. The smaller amplitude stars, characterized by R CrB and RYSgr in the old disk population, show the R CrB syndrome of occasionaldeep light minima, as does UW Cen. The small amplitude variables in thehalo population, BL Tel and LN Hya, do not show the R CrB syndrome andtheir periods are longer than those of old disk stars. Large amplitudevariables, with periods ranging from 10 to 150 days, are all haloobjects with stability of period and form of light curve an obviousfunction of the period. Cen and BL Tel are members of Kapteyn's StarGroup, and the spectroscopic orbital elements of the latter indicate amass near 0.5 solar mass for the pseudocepheid and 1 solar mass for thelate-type giant companion. Far-infrared observations are important inexploring the correlations between the presence and character ofcircumstellar dust shells and other post-AGB star parameters.

The Wolf 630 moving group of stars
An analysis is made of the probability of collective membership of thestars assigned by Eggen to the Wolf 630 moving group. This probabilityis estimated from the scatter of points in the color-absolute magnitudediagram when compared to the intrinsic scatter observed for M67.Particular attention is paid to the random errors for all the observedand deduced stellar parameters. Results show that either theobservational errors must be about 2.4 times larger than given in theproper motion and radial velocity source catalogues, or the intrinsicscatter in the color-magnitude diagram for the Wolf 630 group must bemuch larger than for M67, or many of the stars considered cannot bemembers.

Old disk subdwarfs
Measurements of CaH and TiO band strengths are presented for M dwarfs ofthe old disk population which lie below the main sequence. Their bandstrengths imply a composition intermediate between that of halosubdwarfs and that of disk dwarfs.
