Photometry of δ Sct-type and Related Stars: Results of AD Ari, IP Vir and YZ Boo
Photometric results of three δ Scuti stars, AD Ari, IP Vir and YZBoo from new observations obtained at the Xinglong Station of theBeijing Astronomical Observatory (BAO) during 2000 and 2001 arereported. We present here the preliminary analyses. Detailed studies ofthese stars based on additional data will be published separately.

Rotational velocities of A-type stars in the northern hemisphere. II. Measurement of v sin i
This work is the second part of the set of measurements of v sin i forA-type stars, begun by Royer et al. (\cite{Ror_02a}). Spectra of 249 B8to F2-type stars brighter than V=7 have been collected at Observatoirede Haute-Provence (OHP). Fourier transforms of several line profiles inthe range 4200-4600 Å are used to derive v sin i from thefrequency of the first zero. Statistical analysis of the sampleindicates that measurement error mainly depends on v sin i and thisrelative error of the rotational velocity is found to be about 5% onaverage. The systematic shift with respect to standard values fromSlettebak et al. (\cite{Slk_75}), previously found in the first paper,is here confirmed. Comparisons with data from the literature agree withour findings: v sin i values from Slettebak et al. are underestimatedand the relation between both scales follows a linear law ensuremath vsin inew = 1.03 v sin iold+7.7. Finally, thesedata are combined with those from the previous paper (Royer et al.\cite{Ror_02a}), together with the catalogue of Abt & Morrell(\cite{AbtMol95}). The resulting sample includes some 2150 stars withhomogenized rotational velocities. Based on observations made atObservatoire de Haute Provence (CNRS), France. On the Period-Luminosity-Colour-Metallicity relation and the pulsational characteristics of lambda Bootis type stars
Generally, chemical peculiarity found for stars on the upper mainsequence excludes delta Scuti type pulsation (e.g. Ap and Am stars), butfor the group of lambda Bootis stars it is just the opposite. This makesthem very interesting for asteroseismological investigations. The groupof lambda Bootis type stars comprises late B- to early F-type,Population I objects which are basically metal weak, in particular theFe group elements, but with the clear exception of C, N, O and S. Thepresent work is a continuation of the studies by Paunzen et al.(\cite{Pau97}, \cite{Pau98}), who presented first results on thepulsational characteristics of the lambda Bootis stars. Since then, wehave observed 22 additional objects; we found eight new pulsators andconfirmed another one. Furthermore, new spectroscopic data (Paunzen\cite{Pau01}) allowed us to sort out misidentified candidates and to addtrue members to the group. From 67 members of this group, only two arenot photometrically investigated yet which makes our analysis highlyrepresentative. We have compared our results on the pulsationalbehaviour of the lambda Bootis stars with those of a sample of deltaScuti type objects. We find that at least 70% of all lambda Bootis typestars inside the classical instability strip pulsate, and they do sowith high overtone modes (Q < 0.020 d). Only a few stars, if any,pulsate in the fundamental mode. Our photometric results are inexcellent agreement with the spectroscopic work on high-degree nonradialpulsations by Bohlender et al. (\cite{Boh99}). Compared to the deltaScuti stars, the cool and hot borders of the instability strip of thelambda Bootis stars are shifted by about 25 mmag, towards smaller(b-y)_0. Using published abundances and the metallicity sensitiveindices of the Geneva 7-colour and Strömgren uvbybeta systems, wehave derived [Z] values which describe the surface abundance of theheavier elements for the group members. We find that thePeriod-Luminosity-Colour relation for the group of lambda Bootis starsis within the errors identical with that of the normal delta Scutistars. No clear evidence for a statistically significant metallicityterm was detected. The proper motions of fundamental stars. I. 1535 stars from the Basic FK5
A direct combination of the positions given in the HIPPARCOS cataloguewith astrometric ground-based catalogues having epochs later than 1939allows us to obtain new proper motions for the 1535 stars of the BasicFK5. The results are presented as the catalogue Proper Motions ofFundamental Stars (PMFS), Part I. The median precision of the propermotions is 0.5 mas/year for mu alpha cos delta and 0.7mas/year for mu delta . The non-linear motions of thephotocentres of a few hundred astrometric binaries are separated intotheir linear and elliptic motions. Since the PMFS proper motions do notinclude the information given by the proper motions from othercatalogues (HIPPARCOS, FK5, FK6, etc.) this catalogue can be used as anindependent source of the proper motions of the fundamental stars.Catalogue (Table 3) is only available at the CDS via anonymous ftp tocdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strastg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/365/222

Asteroseismology of Delta Scuti Stars
This paper presents recent results for delta Scuti stars based onmeasurements obtained by WET/Delta Scuti Network as well as theoreticalmodeling of the pulsation modes. In particular, the two stars indifferent stages of evolution, FG Vir and 4 CVn, are discussed. For 4CVn, the XCOV13 campaign has revealed 34 frequencies, which sets a newrecord for delta Scuti stars. Preliminary mode identifications arepresented, indicating pulsation in low radial order and low degree (l =0 to 2). The star shows strong amplitude variability with timescales often years or longer, although for neighbouring years the amplitudesusually are similar. The cyclic behavior of the amplitude variationsexcludes an evolutionary origin. The pulsation mode at 7.375 c/dexhibits the most rapid decrease found so far: the V amplitude droppedfrom the highest known value of 15 mmag in 1974 to 4 mmag in 1976 and 1mmag in 1977. After that the mode has been increasing in amplitude.There exists a phase jump between 1976 and 1977, suggesting the growthof a new mode.

A revised catalogue of delta Sct stars
An extensive and up-dated list of delta Sct stars is presented here.More than 500 papers, published during the last few years, have beenrevised and 341 new variables have been added to our last list, sixyears ago. This catalogue is intended to be a comprehensive review onthe observational characteristics of all the delta Sct stars known untilnow, including stars contained in earlier catalogues together with othernew discovered variables, covering information published until January2000. In summary, 636 variables, 1149 references and 182 individualnotes are presented in this new list. The mode identification and physical parameter determination of the delta Scuti star SAO 16394
The star SAO 16394 was observed with the 85 cm telescope at the XinglongStation of Beijing Astronomical Observatory of China from 8 to 17 April1997 and identified as a new delta Scuti star in 1998. In order todetermine its frequencies and pulsation modes accurately it was observedat the Xinglong Station in 1998 and 1999, and at the Sierra NevadaObservatory (Spain) in 1999. Period analyses were made for our data set(1997) and the data set (1997-1999). From the combined data set(1997-1999), the values of two frequencies are: 16.8493 and 23.0613cd-1. From our photoelectric observations, we obtained twophysical parameters of SAO 16394: log L/Lsun = 1.16, logTeff = 3.92. We calculated the evolution sequences of stellarmodels with 1.00-2.00 solar mass in steps of 0.05Msun and 8physical parameters of each evolutionary phase. We suggest that theevolutionary sequence of the 1.85 Msun model might representthe evolutionary sequence of SAO 16394. The 30th evolutionary phase ofthe evolutionary sequence of the model with 1.85 Msun mightrepresent the current location of SAO 16394. Depending on the Q values(Q1 = 0.0336 day, Q2 = 0.0246 day) and frequencyratio f1/f2 = 0.7306 we identify f1(16.8493 cd-1) as the radial fundamental mode, f2(23.0613 cd-1) as its first overtone.

Sixth Catalogue of Fundamental Stars (FK6). Part I. Basic fundamental stars with direct solutions
The FK6 is a suitable combination of the results of the HIPPARCOSastrometry satellite with ground-based data, measured over more than twocenturies and summarized in the FK5. Part I of the FK6 (abbreviatedFK6(I)) contains 878 basic fundamental stars with direct solutions. Suchdirect solutions are appropriate for single stars or for objects whichcan be treated like single stars. From the 878 stars in Part I, we haveselected 340 objects as "astrometrically excellent stars", since theirinstantaneous proper motions and mean (time-averaged) ones do not differsignificantly. Hence most of the astrometrically excellent stars arewell-behaving "single-star candidates" with good astrometric data. Thesestars are most suited for high-precision astrometry. On the other hand,199 of the stars in Part I are Δμ binaries in the sense ofWielen et al. (1999). Many of them are newly discovered probablebinaries with no other hitherto known indication of binarity. The FK6gives, besides the classical "single-star mode" solutions (SI mode),other solutions which take into account the fact that hidden astrometricbinaries among "apparently single-stars" introduce sizable "cosmicerrors" into the quasi-instantaneously measured HIPPARCOS proper motionsand positions. The FK6 gives in addition to the SI mode the "long-termprediction (LTP) mode" and the "short-term prediction (STP) mode". TheseLTP and STP modes are on average the most precise solutions forapparently single stars, depending on the epoch difference with respectto the HIPPARCOS epoch of about 1991. The typical mean error of anFK6(I) proper motion in the single-star mode is 0.35 mas/year. This isabout a factor of two better than the typical HIPPARCOS errors for thesestars of 0.67 mas/year. In the long-term prediction mode, in whichcosmic errors are taken into account, the FK6(I) proper motions have atypical mean error of 0.50 mas/year, which is by a factor of more than 4better than the corresponding error for the HIPPARCOS values of 2.21mas/year (cosmic errors included).

The new period determination and mode identification of delta Scuti star HR 5437
The delta Scuti variable star HR 5437 was observed with the 85 cmtelescope at the Xinglong Station of Beijing Astronomical Observatoryfrom 1997 to 1998. Period analyses were made for our data set, the dataset obtained by Li and Jiang in 1991 and the combined data set(1991-1998). From the combined data set two frequencies were obtained:11.3484 and 6.9840 cd(-1) . We calculated the evolution sequences of astar with 1.0-2.0 solar mass and all pulsation modes of each evolutionphase. Among all the modes calculated from the 140th evolution phase ofa star with 1.90 solar mass we found two frequencies which are almostthe same as the two observed frequencies. So, we tend to suggest that HR5437 pulsates in two modes: a radial p mode with l=0, n=4 and anothernonradial p modes with l=1, n=1.

The Tokyo PMC catalog 90-93: Catalog of positions of 6649 stars observed in 1990 through 1993 with Tokyo photoelectric meridian circle
The sixth annual catalog of the Tokyo Photoelectric Meridian Circle(PMC) is presented for 6649 stars which were observed at least two timesin January 1990 through March 1993. The mean positions of the starsobserved are given in the catalog at the corresponding mean epochs ofobservations of individual stars. The coordinates of the catalog arebased on the FK5 system, and referred to the equinox and equator ofJ2000.0. The mean local deviations of the observed positions from theFK5 catalog positions are constructed for the basic FK5 stars to comparewith those of the Tokyo PMC Catalog 89 and preliminary Hipparcos resultsof H30.

The Angular Momentum of Main Sequence Stars and Its Relation to Stellar Activity
Rotational velocities are reported for intermediate-mass main sequencestars it the field. The measurements are based on new, high S/N CCDspectra from the Coudé Feed Telescope of the Kitt Peak NationalObservatory. We analyze these rotation rates for a dependence on bothmass and age. We compare the average rotation speeds of the field starswith mean velocities for young stars in Orion, the Alpha Persei cluster,the Pleiades, and the Hyades. The average rotation speeds of stars moremassive than $\sim1.6$ \msun\experience little or no change during theevolutionary lifetimes of these stars on the zero age main sequence orwithin the main sequence band. Less massive stars in the range betwee n1.6\msun\ and 1.3\msun\ also show little decline in mean rotation ratewhile they are on the main sequence, and at most a factor of 2 decreasein velocity as they evolve off the main sequence. The {\it e}-foldingtime for the loss of angular momentum b y the latter group of stars isat least 1--2 billion years. This inferred characteristic time scale forspindown is far longer than the established rotational braking time forsolar-type stars with masses below $\sim1.3$ \msun. We conclude from acomparison of the trends in rotation with trends in chromospheric andcoronal activity that the overall decline in mean rotation speed alongthe main sequence, from $\sim2$ \msun\ down to $\sim1.3$ \msun, isimposed during the pre-main sequence phase of evolution, and that thispattern changes little thereafter while the star resides on the mainsequence. The magnetic activity implicated in the rotational spindown ofthe Sun and of similar stars during their main sequence lifetimes mus ttherefore play only a minor role in determining the rotation rates ofthe intermediate mass stars, either because a solar-like dynamo is weakor absent, or else the geometry of the magnetic field is appreciablyless effective in removing angular momentu m from these stars. The Relation between Rotational Velocities and Spectral Peculiarities among A-Type Stars

We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star,when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.

δ Scuti stars: a new revised list
An extensive and up to date list of δ Sct stars is presented. Thiscatalogue is intended to be a comprehensive review of observationalcharacteristics of all the δ Sct stars known until now, includingstars contained in earlier catalogues together with other new discoveredvariables, covering information published until November 1993. Globalinformation in the form of histograms and diagrams are also shown.

The Delta Scuti star HD 127759
The results are reported of six nights of V-band observations of thenewly discovered Delta Scuti variable HD 127759 during April 3-21, 1991and its Stromgren uvby(beta) photometry. The period analysis indicatesthat HD 127759 is a single-sine frequency-dominant pulsation variablewith a frequency of 14.78626 cycle/d and an amplitude of 0.0199 m. Thetimes of maximum are given. The star is located at the blue edge of theDelta Scuti variable instability strip, with T(eff) about 8400 K andM(V) about 0.93 m.

The Beta Scuti star HR 5437
Johnson V band and Stromgren uvby-beta photoelectric photometry of HR5437 were performed in 1989 and 1991. By using Fourier periodograms anda convergent least-squares analysis, 196 V band measurements of sevennights obtained during April 2-21, 1991 are analyzed. The mainpulsational frequency of HR 5437 is found to be 11.38993 cycle/d. Thisfrequency, combined with another frequency 8.5367 cycle/d found byPaparo et al. (1990) suggest that HR 5437 is a radial-pulsationbeta-Scuti variable star in the fundamental and first overtone modes.

The early F-type stars - Refined classification, confrontation with Stromgren photometry, and the effects of rotation
The classification for early F-type stars in the MK spectralclassification system presented by Gray and Garrison (1987) is refined.The effect of rotation on spectral classification and ubvy-betaphotometry of early F-type stars is examined. It is found that theclassical luminosity criterion, the 4417 A/4481 A ratio givesinconsistent results. It is shown that most of the stars in the DeltaDelphini class of metallic-line stars are either normal or areindistinguishable from proto-Am stars. It is suggested that thedesignation Delta Delphini should be dropped. The classifications arecompared with Stromgren photometry. The effects of rotation on thedelta-c1 index in the early-F field dwarfs is demonstrated.

ICCD speckle observations of binary stars. IV - Measurements during 1986-1988 from the Kitt Peak 4 M telescope
One thousand five hundred and fifty measurements of 1006 binary starsystems observed mostly during 1986 through mid-1988 by means of speckleinterferometry with the KPNO 4-m telescope are presented. Twenty-onesystems are directly resolved for the first time, including newcomponents to the cool supergiant Alpha Her A and the Pleiades shellstar Pleione. A continuing survey of The Bright Star Catalogue yieldedeight new binaries from 293 bright stars observed. Corrections tospeckle measures from the GSU/CHARA ICCD speckle camera previouslypublished are presented and discussed.

A catalogue of right ascensions and declinations of FK4 stars
The position parameters of 578 stars from the fundamental catalog FK4are determined on the basis of 3-4-h meridian-circle observationsobtained by the differential method at Belgrade Astronomical Observatoryduring 1981-1987. The observation method and data-reduction proceduresare explained, and the results are compiled in extensive tables. Theaverage mean-square errors per observation are found to beepsilon(alpha) cos delta = + or - 0.022 sec and epsilon(delta) = + or -0.32 arcsec.

The equal-altitude method of quasi-absolute determination of star coordinates
Absolute coordinate values are determined for 86 objects on the basis ofdata obtained with Mark II photoelectric astrolabe No. 2 at BeijingAstronomical Observatory during the period 1979-1984. The equal-altitudemethod employed in the computations is described in detail, and theresults are presented in tables. The mean accuracy of the positioncorrections is given as + or - 1.6 msec in right ascension and + or -0.019 arcsec in declination.
